There are three types of photoelectric detection systems. Below you will find the advantages, disadvantages and precautions for each type.
The barrier or multimode system with barrier accessory
Advantages
- High range (up to 60 m).
- Highly accurate detection, high reproducibility.
- Detection independent of object colour.
- Good resistance to harsh environments (dust, dirt, etc.).
Disadvantages
- Two boxes to wire
- The object to be detected must be opaque.
- Precise and delicate alignment required because the detector emits infrared (invisible) light.
Precautions for use
When using multiple detectors, ensure that no detector is disrupted by another (e.g. alternate transmitter/receiver mounting, etc.).
The advantages of a multimode product with barrier accessory
- Easy alignment
- The detector emits visible red light during the alignment phase.
- 3 LEDs assist with implementation
Polarised or multimode reflex system with reflector accessory
Advantages
- Medium range (up to 15 m).
- Precise detection.
- Only 1 detector to wire.
- Detection independent of object colour.
- Visible red light emission.
Disadvantages
- Precise alignment required.
- The object to be detected must be opaque and larger than the reflector.
Precautions for use
- When using multiple detectors, ensure that the detectors are aligned so that no detector is disturbed by another.
- For close-range detection, use a large trihedral reflector, such as the XUZC24.
- For long-distance detection, use a reflector such as the XUZC50 or XUZC80.
- To increase the range, use a reflector such as the XUZC100.
- When using reflective strips, use strips such as the XUZB11 and XUZB15, which are specially designed for polarised reflexes.
Advantages of a multimode product with reflector accessory
- Easy alignment 3 LEDs assist with implementation.
- The anti-interference function allows 2 detectors to be used without any special alignment precautions.
- Semi-transparent objects can be detected thanks to the teach function.
Direct reflection or multimode system
Advantage
Only one detector to wire.
Disadvantages
- Low range.
- Sensitivity to differences in the colour of the object or background.
- Difficult to aim at the object because the sensor emits infrared (invisible) light.
Precautions for use
When using multiple sensors, make sure to align them so that no sensor is disturbed by another.
Advantages of a multimode product
- Easy alignment:
- - the sensor emits visible red light during the alignment phase,
- - 3 LEDs assist with implementation,
- - the anti-interference function allows 2 sensors to be used without any special alignment precautions.
- Refined detection: it is possible to detect the position of the object through learning.
Direct reflection system with or without background suppression or multimode.
Advantages
- Only one sensor to wire.
- Detection independent of the colour of the object or background.
Disadvantages
- Short range.
- Difficult to aim at the object because the sensor emits infrared (invisible) light.
Precautions
Detection may be affected by the direction in which the object is moving. To avoid this phenomenon (the cap effect), it is recommended that the sensor be mounted so that the object simultaneously interrupts the beam of both lenses.
When using multiple detectors, ensure that they are aligned so that no detector is disrupted by another.
The advantages of a multimode product
- Easy alignment:
- the detector emits visible red light during the alignment phase,
- 3 LEDs assist with implementation,
- the anti-interference function allows 2 detectors to be used without any special alignment precautions
- The cap effect is minimised by background learning. - • Refined detection: it is possible to detect the position of the object through learning
